AGN NA Fall Symposium 2019: Press Release

October 2019
This year, AGN NA hosted its annual Fall Symposium in Atlanta GA, on October20 - 22. The event saw a total of 80 attendees, of which 63 were delegates.

The event presented attendees with dynamic speakers on current practice management issues such as growth, staff retention, and firm culture, as well as a two-day tax seminar for AGN tax professionals. The Grand Hyatt Hotel in Atlanta’s Buckhead section also hosted AGN’s staff level training and emerging leaders program, rounding out a diverse representation of AGN member firms.

In addition to pertinent, high-quality technical content, the Symposium provided plenty of opportunities for representatives to interact and share, including a wonderful dinner at the Atlanta Fish Market, attended by everyone from the newest of staff accountants to managing partners.

Brad Lusk, AGN International - North America Chair, described the event as, “…yet another successful AGN offering to our North America Region members. Our association continues to focus on meaningful content and resources for its members, and the line-up for the Fall Symposium delivered. I always come away from AGN conferences with relevant and substantive material to share with my firm, and of course, the camaraderie with friends from like-minded firms in all parts of North America is invaluable.”

When attendees were asked what the main reasons were for attending the event, the answer was clear. Members wanted to learn, interact and connect with members. Here's what some AGN members had to say:

"This event is always jam-packed full of great content, ideas, and networking opportunities. The tax update classes with Joe Nicola were invaluable, but the roundtable discussions are the best. The event allowed me to have in-depth discussions with other partners at similar-sized firms to ours about “top plate” concerns and comments we face every day. I also met Ben Westcott, who is a Mizzou grad just like me!"John R. Schnurbusch, CPA (Partner at SFW Partners, LLC)

"...I especially liked the general session speakers. Ray & Eve were both strong." - Lisa Hastings, CPA (Partner at Faw Casson)
"Much of the technical content of the practice management sessions addressed human capital. The speakers and content delivered many valuable thoughts and tools to take back to my firm in this area. I also valued the interaction with my managing partner peers." - Bradley P. Lusk, CPA (Managing Partner at Sisterson & Co. LLP)

"I attended the conference to learn, bond, and strengthen relationships with my peers across the country in the area of taxation. I met several new contacts and reconnected with many familiar faces. The expertise of the instructors was incredibly impressive."Joseph P. Nicola, Jr., CPA, JD, CVA (Tax Partner at Sisterson & Co. LLP)

"I made some connections with other firms with similar issues, which I had aimed to do. I intend to follow up with the connections made; otherwise, they won’t make it. I learnt about the tools that exist to offer better feedback and Eve’s session was fantastic - I'm looking forward to getting her slides and links. Ray's session was equally great, and I hope to hear from Ray to pick his brain on poker (and maybe firm) strategies."Lance G. Weiss, CPA, CVA (Partner at SFW Partners, LLC)

" The event allowed me to spend time with my AGN buddies and learn with them. I made lots of new connections, as I always do when attending AGN events, which gave me the opportunity to ask, share, be inspired, and feel re-energised. I particularly loved Ray's topic on Monday morning." - Ursula C. Scroggs, CPA, CGMA (Managing Director at Derderian, Kann, Seyferth & Salucci, P.C.)
