30th Sept. - 2nd Oct. Amsterdam - The Netherlands
Technical Programme |
|
The first day of the Congress concentrates on two specific items - firstly, an introduction to the country where the meeting is being held....how and why The Netherlands is such
an important player in the world of international business and why it is such a good base to do business from, and secondly, an introspective look at our own organization.
Initially, a presentation on the challenges facing an organization such as ourselves in light of the increasing amount of claims arising around the world and how to protect against this,
and then a chance to discuss the practical implications of retaining AGN’s status as an Association. This latter session will be interactive with an initial presentation and then subsequent
round table discussions. The day will end with the Annual General Meeting of the Company, comprising the presentation of the audited 2006 financials, the re-election of directors and
some other administrative matters.
The second day is a departure from all previous Congresses. The entire day will be given over to defining and demonstrating the concept of Leadership. The agenda comprises
of a few presentations covering the subjects of Leadership compared to Management and how to motivate persons, interspersed with practical exercises to demonstrate these concepts.
A self determining biometric survey will also be part of the programme. The exercises will be undertaken by delegates in teams with the chance of winning a prize and companions will be
able to join delegates for the afternoon session to partake in the last practical exercise.
The team presenting the day’s sessions are experienced facilitators of effective leadership performance obtained through both coaching and training. Leadership Solutions Europe
(www.lse.lu). The meeting will close with an address from the new Chair of AGN. |

Every six months, all AGN members are asked to report the inbound and outbound international engagements and referral fees.
Due to member requests, the Executive Office has implemented and is currently testing a new web-based system to help make it easier for firms to
report referrals to and from other member firms. A trial was completed earlier this year, with some selected member firms supplying actual data
for the October 30, ’06 reporting period.
Subsequently, problems encountered by members during the tests are being addressed by the software engineers and members may expect to receive the request to provide data for the October-’06-to-April-’07 reporting period in (Update on the timing for April 30 request).
As a reminder, Operating Guideline 3.2 states that a “referral fee on all net fees received by a Member as a result of international work referred to
that Member through its membership in AGN shall be paid to AGN (London office).”
This includes all fees received as a result of referred work from firms in other countries in the same region. The percentage is established by the
International Board and is currently 7%.
Summaries and detailed information on the cross-board referrals for the year ending October 2006 is available at www.agn.org>Members>

It pays for non-US members to register with the PCAOB, too! |

During the 2005 World Congress in Beijing, Steve Kass, Rothstein Kass & Co., North America, gave a presentation educating non-US AGN members
regarding the importance and benefits of registering with the US based- PCAOB.
During the presentation, Steve reminded members that:
• Any foreign public accounting firm that plays a “substantial role” in the preparation of an audit report to any issues must be registered with the PCAOB.
Benefits of registration include:
• Increased revenue opportunities
• Marketing tool
• Stronger controls and documentation
Steve pointed to several lost revenue opportunities due to non-registration of AGN firms in the countries of the prospects’ non-US operations.
In one case, €$50,000 in potential annual fees for an AGN firm were lost; in another, $400,000 in potential annual fees for an AGN firm were lost.
Steve reported that Rothstein Kass resorted to using the services of Big 4 firms, due to a lack of alternatives.
Registration information may be found at www.pcaob.com, and the process, according to those firms who have completed it, is not that onerous or
expensive. Registration fees are based on the number of publicly-held clients for which the firm performed audits in the preceding year (Less than 50 clients
= US$500).
A list of those members who have thus far registered is at right. This list may also be found at www.agn.org>Members>Private Home>Login & Password >Members Only> International>Professional Standards.
