Dear colleagues,

The world moves very fast and deadlines for printing WorldwideLink have to be followed … So what I am writing today might be outdated when you read these lines and AGN Europe substantially increased – who knows?

For the time being, speaking of recent events, the Athens meeting was well-attended (over 100 participants) and, I believe, quite successful.

It was explained and well-acknowledged that AGN is an association and a competition was launched to create a new meaning for the three letters ‘A’ ‘G’ and ‘N’. ‘A’ could stand for Association, but ‘N’ certainly does not stand for “Network”. Bids are open.

On Friday afternoon there were round tables organised by the Business Development Committee with the following questions:

Any problems experienced with giving and receiving work?
How can the guidance and reporting systems be improved?
What steps can be taken to further increase referred work?

It gave an opportunity to the members to express themselves and thus let the organisation know better in what way it should progress, the answers being collected and studied by the European Board.

Saturday morning was organised by the Tax Committee. Among other topics of interest, it was pointed out that the IBFD system — a worldwide database of tax information —could be purchased by the European members at a special price package: worth considering for each company.

We also had the chance to listen to an excellent lecture from a representative of the UK Ministry of Finance who is responsible for VAT fraud prevention and detection.

Membership
As for membership, good and bad news.

The good news: Ukraine and Belarus are now full members and The Netherlands, Liechtenstein and Romania are under review to become full members. We are still looking for a member in Belgium.

Bad news: one major German firm – FIDES—is leaving the organisation. But in the near future, the picture could radically change.

The European Board is actively working. We had a meeting on the 19th April in Cologne in the offices of Franz Meller. Another meeting was held on the 7th June prior to the Athens European meeting. The next one is scheduled on 30th November in Luxembourg in the offices of Karl Horsburgh. It will deal, among other subjects, with the 2008 AGN Europe budget. July and August are the holiday season, which is a good chance to relax but also to think about the future. At present I am writing this letter in the TGV (fast train) back from the French Riviera, where I partly audited a company and partly enjoyed the seashore.

I am looking forward to seeing you in Amsterdam at the International World Congress, to be held in and hosted by the Europe region this year. In the meantime do receive all my best wishes for pleasant and sunny holidays.

GERMANY
SH+C Hempe Bumes Winkler GmbH announces that the team at SH+C is now even stronger. The tax office of Gerhard Wagner has joined the Regensburg tax consulting company SH+C.

“We are looking forward to providing a wider range of services and being able to draw on a broader basis of experience”, said Matthias Winkler, tax advisor and managing director of SH+C. Gerhard Wagner, tax advisor and legal consultant, founded his tax office in Regensburg in 1979. In the future he will support SH+C as managing director and shareholder.

According to Winkler, because of the increasingly complex tax laws, the specialisation of individual tax advisors within a tax consultancy is becoming more and more important. In the future, one or two tax advisors will no longer be able to cover all sectors of tax consultancy.

“With five tax advisors in Regensburg and four in Munich, we can provide competent and fast solutions in even the most difficult cases”, Winkler said.

As a result of the merger SH+C has moved to the business park in Regensburg. The new address of SH+C is: “Im Gewerbepark D75, D-93059 Regensburg”. More information is in the internet at the SH+C website: www.shc.de.
