It
was with immense pleasure that I welcomed almost 40 delegates
to the AGN APAC conference in Bangkok, Thailand on 6 July
2006.
The
conference was the forum for some of the most brilliant
business, legal and taxation ideas.
We were lucky enough
to have some guest speakers who were leaders
in their profession, including Dr Thomas Chiu from Thomas
Chiu & Associates,
Mark Buchanan from global migration firm Fragomen, Phunchan
Tanavatsatiend from Success Media and Dr Angelo
Vernados from Heritage.
Of
course the highlight of the gathering was being able
to renew acquaintances, build on existing
friendships and form new ones, as well as catching
up on
all the news and the latest in practice development and expertise.

High
on the agenda was opening the world up to ideas and
know-how on the China market. We do possess
great skills in the region in respect of cracking
the
China market, not only from a tax, legal and regulatory basis, but also
with
regard
to financial due diligence and market statistics.
There
are many opportunities as well as business colleagues
who can provide strategic and local
know-how to make sure
businesses
can successfully
operate
in one of
the most
lucrative and
challenging markets in the world.
We
continue to expand our services and numbers in the
APAC region. Bill
Moody, AGN International Chairman, left the conference
knowing that the region is full
of opportunities and that members
are well equipped
to provide
invaluable advice to organisations wanting to successfully do business
in this region.
Bill
was actively involved in the conference in not only
presenting a paper on Practice Management but also in providing some feedback
on my
own paper
on Sarbanes
Oxley issues for auditors, as well as IPO opportunities
and strategies in Australia. Delegates
marveled at how far Australia has caught up with some
of the traditionally favoured
countries for APAC hubs. Singapore and
Hong Kong were also discussed
and I encourage you to find out more about doing business in this
region.
The
conference ended with some firm plans to further enhance
our activities in the region, specifically
with regard to structure,
resources required,
expansion into Vietnam, likely new member joining us from South
Korea (Yeil Accountants)
and various other initiatives. I
look forward to reporting more good news for this region
and would encourage you to contact me with any thoughts
or observations.
