MEETINGS

The programme and invitation for the 2007 World Congress has been finalised and will shortly be available for access thru the AGN website.  Individual announcements of the opening of these pages will be sent by e-mail to all international contact partners in the next few days.

Successful regional meetings have recently been held.  The Asia/Pacific meeting was held in Manila, The Philippines where there were 34 delegates attending from all countries in the region apart from one.  The North American regional meeting held in Broomfield/Denver, Colorado was the largest ever with some 225 delegates and companions attending.  See future editions of Worldwidelink for detailed write ups of these meetings.  The European regional meeting is shortly to be held in Athens , Greece over June 7 to 9.  Over 100 participants are expected.

PUBLICATIONS

The May edition of Worldwidelink will shortly be published and sent to all member firms.

The next edition of Businessbrief will be published in July; copy deadline for articles is June 25.

OTHER

Board Minutes – minutes of the March 2007 International Board meeting can now be accessed on the AGN website – (Route:  Members / Private Home / Login & Password / Members Only / International / International Board Minutes).

E-Reporting – requests for the April 30, 2007 period end referral fee information have not yet been mailed out to the membership.  This is because the entire reporting system is being changed to a web based one.  A trial was completed earlier this year with some selected member firms supplying actual data for the last reporting period and currently the software engineers are fixing the changes that were necessary (both as a result of system problems and testing members comments).  It is expected that the system will be entirely operative by the end of June and all international contact partners will be advised by e-mail when it is with initial instructions as to how to access the system.

Insurance Cover – in accordance with the decision taken at the March 2007 International Board meeting, a membership listing has now been included in the AGN website noting which members do or do not carry professional indemnity cover – (Route:  Members / Private Home / Login & Password / Members Only / International / Insurance Coverage).

Referral Information -  detailed information in respect of cross border referred work for the year ending October 2006 is now available on the AGN website – (Route:  Members / Private Home / Login & Password / Members Only / International / Referrals).

Use of the AGN Name -  Operating Guideline 2 has recently been re-issued with revised wording describing member firms affiliation with AGN.  There is a choice of two alternative texts, which must be used on firm’s communications materials when members refer to their affiliation to AGN.  Use of these texts and the AGN logo are strongly recommended by the International Board.  The revised Operating Guideline is on the AGN website – (Route:  Members / Private Home / Login & Password / Members Only / International /  Byelaws & Policies / Rules, Operating Guidelines – Full Members / No. 2 - Name of AGN and Guidelines on its use).  It will be sent to all international contact partners shortly in hard copy, to be inserted in the AGN Membership Manual.

World Accounting Intelligence Daily – recipients of this subscription will have noticed that they have not been able to access the details of this daily e-mail newsletter.  This is because the publishers substantially increased its price for 2007 and at the last International Board meeting the decision was taken not to review the subscription.  However, the publishers have offered to provide a bulk discount for their other publications and details of this are awaited; when received all international contact partners will be informed.

COMPETITION

You will recall that the International Board prohibited in 2006 all further use of the moniker “Accountants Global Network”.  As the name of our association remains as AGN International, we now need to find a moniker / meaning for the initials “AGN”.  A competition has, therefore, been set up for all members to submit their suggestions for this moniker; the provider of the winning suggestion will receive a prize of a free of charge invite for a delegate and companion to the next World Congress.  Rules of the competition are as follows:

  • only full member firms are eligible to enter
  • a maximum of two suggestions per full member firm are allowed
  • closing date for suggestions is July 31, 2007
  • all suggestions are to be sent to the International Executive Office in London, short list of twenty will be determined and provided to the International Board
  • the International Board will decide the winner in their meeting on September 29, and their decision will be final
  • the winner will be announced at the close of the 2007 World Congress on October 2
  • the prize is transferable between individuals and firms
