VISAS:
Visitors from a number of countries do not need a visa to visit Argentina. However, as a visa is required for nationals of some countries, you must check with your travel agent and your local Argentinean Embassy or Consulate whether you need one.

Should you need an official invitation to support any visa application, please contact the Executive Office in London at the earliest opportunity.

CHOSEN HOTEL:
The Congress hotel for the nights of Thursday, September 25 thru Saturday, September 27 is:

The Caesars Park Hotel

Posadas 1232
Buenos Aires (C1011ABF)
Tel: (+54 11) 4819 1100
URL: www.caesar-park.com

INSURANCE:
It is important that you have adequate insurance cover in respect of both health and travel logistics before you leave home.

HEALTH:
Check, at an early date, with your local Doctor as to whether you will need any vaccinations or inoculations before travelling. There are modern international multi-lingual hospitals in Buenos Aires.

ON ARRIVAL:
If you are not on the Pre-Congress Tour and arrive on an international flight, you will arrive at Ministro Pistarini Airport (EZE). The airport is some 35 kms from the hotel and the journey time is approximately 45 minutes. There are two ways of getting to the Caesars Park Hotel from the airport:

  • by car; either arranged through the tour hotel or tour travel agency. In both cases the cost is approximately US$85. Should you want this, please supply your flight arrival details to the AGN Executive Office in London to pass on to the service provided concerned; you will receive a confirmation once it is booked.
  • by taxi (“remisa”); ensure that you get an official taxi from the airport (do not accept taxi rides from persons approaching you in the public arrivals area). There are a number of official taxi offices in the area between Customs clearance and the public arrivals where taxis can be booked; there is also an official taxi stand “Eziza Taxis” in the public arrivals area. The cost of a taxi to the hotel will be approximately Pesos 100 (US$32).

CURRENCY:
The current rates of exchange (April 2008) are as follows:

  Argentinean Peso
  $3.17 = US$1
  $6.33 = £1
  $4.99 = €1

On arrival at Buenos Aires International Airport, there are currency booths in the luggage reclaim area, but these do not give good exchange rates. The Banco Nation located after Customs clearance and before exit to the public arrivals area gives exchange at the official rate. ATM’s are located in the public arrivals area and at banks around the Congress hotel. The rates of exchange are better from the banks rather than from hotels.

LANGUAGE:
The language in Argentina is Spanish.
When using taxis, you should be aware that most taxi drivers do not speak English, apart from those at the airport. If you are travelling from your hotel to another location by taxi, make sure that you get the hotel’s concierge to inform the driver of where you want to go to; also remember to get the hotel’s name and address in writing for the return journey.

TIPPING:
It is customary to give a 10% tip in a restaurant; in taxis, round up the fare to the next whole number – loose change is acceptable.

TEMPERATURES:
At the end of September the approximate temperature range in Buenos Aires is:

Maximum
Minimum

°C
°C

20
10

Rainfall should be minimal, however, it may be windy and cool at night, therefore, it would be prudent to bring a light sweater and a windcheater jacket.

ELECTRICS:
Argentina has an electrical supply of 220v, 50 hz; the plug sockets are 2 round pin style.

REGISTRATION:
Delegate files for the Congress, plus all remaining badges, will be available for collection at the Welcome Dinner on Thursday, September 25 and again on the following morning before the days activities start.

DRESS CODE:
For the Congress sessions, smart casual (no jackets, no ties, but no jeans or shorts) to be worn. For the Gala Dinner, formal wear to be worn (suit – black tie is encouraged).
