IN THIS ISSUE
4th QUARTER 2016
MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Liam McQauid, Chairman, AGN International Ltd
Partner, Duignan Carthy O'Neill
Dublin, Ireland

Greetings to All,

Goals
The AGN management team and I are focused on my goals as Chair to increase AGN membership and encourage business for and among members.

New members to AGN include KNM Management Advisory Services PVT Ltd (India), PMX Consulting Group (Hungary), Regier, Carr and Monroe LLP (USA), Chiene + Tait (Scotland), EPR group of 20 firms (Canada), Xestion Advisor Private Limited (India), WSR Cintinus GmbH (Germany), A Tax International Ltd (Slovenia) and Arora & Bansal (India).

The new member pipeline is active and our member website contact form is triggering a steady stream of new member enquiries in all regions. Prospective members in North America and Europe also attended the World Congress in Dublin.

We have been running a series of webinar events. In December we have Are You Making Money from Human Talent in your Business and Talent Update 2017 for AGN Partner Development Teams. More webinars on topical issues for AGN members are planned.

Global Business Voice
AGN Global Business Voice is a quick fire poll of partners in 40 AGN member firms. We published our first poll titled “Trump Elect, the International Business Reaction” in November 2016 and it has been well received. This is a useful marketing tool you may wish to use in your firms.

Board
The international Board met in September and November 2016 and matters discussed included:

 • Receiving and approving 5 Regional reports
 • Agreeing member and business development initiatives
 • Collaboration and licencing agreements
 • Strategic development review
 • International Committees
 • Board briefing review
 • Law and IT Association collaboration
 • Board membership
 • Regional reorganisation

The Board will have phone conferences in May and August 2017 and face to face meetings in London and Bangkok in March and November 2017. Full minutes for the Board Meetings are available on the AGN website.

The Board is focused on its strategic plan, details of which are set out in my Chair’s Report for 2015.

It is with regret that in August 2016 Esther Tan, Partner with GEP Associates in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, resigned from the Board after serving for over 11 years including two years as Chair. Esther’s insightful and knowledgeable contributions have been an integral part of our Board meetings and her tireless work in developing the Asia Pacific Region has contributed greatly to bringing the Region to the successful stage it is today. We wish her well.

Vimala Devi, Partner with BSL Tax Services Pte Ltd in Singapore, was co-opted to the Board in November 2016 as the Asia Pacific representative on the Board.

AGN Meetings
AGN Meetings were held in Berlin (IFRS Seminar), Buenos Aires (CSA), Stuttgart (German speakers), and Las Vegas (NA Tax and SALT) in the last three months and they were all successful.

As the Irish member of AGN my firm (Duignan Carthy O’Neill) were delighted to host the AGN World Congress in Dublin during September 2016. The numbers attending exceeded expectations, with 156 attendees, 67 firms from 40 countries. Our thanks to the AGN staff for the excellent organisation of the event.

Keynote speaker in Dublin, Kingsley Aikins, advised that international networking involves “building trust, listening, being relationship driven not transaction driven and to be open to new ideas”. Food for thought here!

Forthcoming Meetings
I encourage you all to look at the AGN website for forthcoming meetings. Current agreed dates are Budapest (June 2017), Pittsburgh (June 2017), Rio de Janeiro (October 2017), and Bangkok (November 2017). These meetings are so important to continue to build relationships with fellow members.

The World Congress in Bangkok (November 2017) is an exceptionally exciting prospect to visit the beautiful country of Thailand and perhaps tour the surrounding countries.Bangkok is a thriving city with lots to see in a safe environment. I hope to see you all there.

Member Awards
During 2016 our members continue to excel and receive many awards, including Top 100 Firm in US, Top 50 Chinese Firm, Tax Advisor of the Year Award, Best Place to Work Awards, Longevity Award and many more. These awards confirm the excellence of our member firms.

I will finish with a quote from George Bernard Shaw:
You see things; and say “why?” But I dream things that never were; and I say “why not?"

In AGN, let’s dream things that never were and say “why not?”

Contact
Please feel free to contact me to discuss any AGN matters.

As 2016 comes to close and 2017 approaches, I would like to wish you all happy holidays and a successful new year.

Liam McQuaid
Chairman AGN International Ltd

LOBBY SIGNS CONTEST -- AND THE WINNER IS . . .

Prieto, Ruiz de Velasco y CIA., S.C. (PRV) in Mexico!
The firm receives a 50% discount to the next AGN event attended (discount for one delegate only). Judging was performed by the AGN staff in a democratic process; no election hacking involved!

PRV had the sign made of acrylic and mounted on a beveled mirror in their lobby.

Crisanto Sánchez Gaitán, Managing Partner, is delighted by the news and states, "Let me tell you that PRV and all its partners are very proud to belong to an international organization as important and active worldwide as AGN and, of course, for the quality of all its members."

Many thanks to the several firms who submitted entries. The bar was set high at the 2015 World Congress when Vancouver member Rolfe, Benson opened their office to AGN members for a cocktail reception and showcased their lobby sign.

This contest was devised to help celebrate the one year anniversary of the new AGN brand and to reinforce the concept of individual and independent while still being connected. Firms use this opportunity to show their clients that they are members of a global organization that can assist with any client international needs.

STAFF EXCHANGE

STAFF EXCHANGE PROGRAM SUCCESSES

AGN's Staff Exchange is very well received by those who have participated in this program. It helps attract temporary employees in a busy season or for a particular project. Firms may also send their talented employees for a temporary work assignment overseas, or in country, to increase skills and experiences. AGN provides information and technical support. All decisions and agreements are performed by the participating parties.

This year, Shipleys in the UK and Hall Chadwick in Australia exchanged some staff members. These individuals appreciated the opportunity to experience life in another firm and in another country, exposure to a new economy, new client base, and new systems and processes in a new internal working environment. Working in unfamiliar surroundings could be challenging, and the participants appreciated the opportunity to build problem solving skills, and resilience. The mutually beneficial relationship between the individuals and the firms created synergies that allowed the sharing of knowledge on both sides.

If you are interested in participating in this program, login at www.agn.org and scroll down the page to Staff Exchange.
