Welcome to the latest Worldwide Update. I hope you have enjoyed your summer, or for our southern hemisphere colleagues, are looking forward to spring!

I wonder if you have seen the new Google logo introduced this week. I was pleased when somebody remarked to me that there are certain similarities with our own rebranded look at AGN - similar fonts and use of multi colours. I am certainly not making a direct comparison, but it's always nice to have a little external validation of our direction!

I hope by now you have all had a good look at our new website. There is more work to do in the remainder of 2015, but this is already a major step in the Association's development and I feel places us at the forefront of the market. Please do use the brand guidance and materials to make sure you are making the most of the AGN brand. To access the brand guidelines, login to the website and then scroll down the Members-Only home page to the AGN Logo Download box, click the link and then you will see another link to the Guide Download.

Aside from the new corporate imagery, our website sets out our foundations in high standards and great customer service, consistent across the globe, and underpinned by our brand promise of excellent, connected and individual. Again, this is distinctive from our competitors, and in turn, it supports our development of new approaches and services to make our members' businesses more valuable - which is our important purpose.

At our World Congress in Vancouver, 25-27 October, we will be talking in more detail about the plans referenced above, and working together on some specific initiatives around business development and knowledge sharing. As well as the important opportunity to renew old and make new friendships, there will also be some top quality keynote speakers. I am certain it will be a very stimulating and valuable event. Please do register now.

Finally, I am very pleased to introduce the AGN Staff Exchange Program, with further details below. Huge thanks to Anton Kalanov and his colleagues for masterminding this initiative. It will likely take a little time to develop,  but I am firmly convinced that it gives AGN members a great opportunity to retain and develop talented individuals, as well as to make new, strong, and valuable connections within the AGN global membership. Please do take some time to have a look through and consider what this program might do for your business.

AGN has created a Staff Exchange Program whereby AGN member firms may send their talented staff overseas for a temporary work assignment, and for AGN member firms that wish to accept such temporary staff.

The objectives of this program are:

• Foster the exchange of best practices, knowledge, and skills throughout the association

• Provide member firms with a means to develop staff skills, expose them to new ways of working, motivate them, and ultimately assist them in reaching their full potential 

• Special assignments for projects requiring knowledge of local legislation and/or language of the staff person's home country

• Opportunity to attract and retain best staff (similar to opportunities available in Big 4 firms) 

Advantages to participating firms are additional staff when you need them without the obligation of a long-term contract, new ideas and experiences, increased staff morale, and more! 

The world is becoming smaller every day, and global integration and experience are becoming ever more important. AGN member firms can meet these challenges by participating in the AGN Staff Exchange Program. More information is available to members via the Members-Only home page. The home page of our new website includes a rotating banner of some of our members and AGN team. The purpose is to echo our brand promise and show us as "individual". According to our brand and our emphasis on standards and service, we are aiming to come across as: "Commercial, pragmatic and genuine . . . Relationship focused, wise and reflective, but young and energetic in outlook . . . Trusted professionals that people actually want to do business with."

Over time, we would like to add your shots to our International home page. We would love you to send in your photos for possible inclusion. If you take a look at the shots already there, you will get an idea of the style we are after - they will usually be solo shots with detail of your head and shoulders - we can make black and white, crop and blur backgrounds if required. Always professional of course, but please, let your individual personality shine through!

New Publications
CSA Tax Comparison: this publication is now available in English and Spanish, and a Portuguese version will be released very soon. This year the Tax Committee has also prepared an interesting overview that highlights the tax comparison in the region.

CSA Services and Industries: a brochure that contains detailed information about the sectors where our member firms' clients are operating and the services that members are providing. This brochure also reveals how well prepared the region is to provide excellent service in different areas and industries.

2015 Tax & SaLT Conference
In conjunction with the 2015 World Congress, the NA region is holding it's annual Tax & SaLT (State & Local Tax) Conference immediately following the World Congress in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Tuesday evening, 27 October, at Grouse Mountain will be a joint event to give tax professionals from all regions the opportunity to meet and get to know each other in a relaxed, social atmosphere.

Rita Hood, NA Regional Director, Retires in May 2016
Rita J. Hood, an AGN team member for 29 years (so far!), will retire on May 31, 2016. Before the merger that created AGN, Rita began her employment in 1986 as the Continental Association of CPA Firms (CACPA)'s first Marketing Coordinator, and in subsequent years served as Director of Marketing Services and Member Networking. In 1996 she was named Executive Director and was fundamental in the eventual merger of CACPA and CKL to form what we now know as AGN.

For many of you, the 2015 World Congress will be the last time you see Rita at an AGN event. Don't miss this opportunity to thank her for all her contributions to the association over the years! 

Meet Asia Pacific's New Regional Manager
Simon Chan joins the AGN team as the Regional Manager for the Asia/Pacific region. Simon is fluent in Chinese and English; he begins employment next month.


You can register partners, managers and staff so they may access the Members-Only area of the AGN website. In order to do so, contact your AGN regional office and they will set up your staff with individual usernames and passwords.

In addition, your staff will receive email newsletters and other communications from AGN (international and regional updates, invitations to AGN events, etc.)
