EURM Held 8 - 10 June in Budapest, Hungary
Members from across Europe gathered at the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus to learn, meet new members, and connect with each other over three days to exchange ideas and best practices. Around 100 attendees included 6 representatives from new member firms Multicont Revisions-und Treuhand Gesellschaft m.b.H.
(Vienna, Austria) and BM&A
Our host firm, PMX Consulting Group KFT
, welcomed everyone to their city with gift bags containing a Rubik's cube. By way of background, the Rubik's cube was invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture, Ernő Rubik. Originally called the Magic Cube, the puzzle was licensed by Rubik to be sold by Ideal Toy Corporation in 1980, and would become the world's best-selling toy ever.
This year's EURM featured the new Emerging Leaders session aimed at member firms' high potential managers and future partners. Led by Rose Gledhill
, HR Consultant with Face HR Limited (UK), participants analyzed their roles in their firms, identified their strengths, and learned how their values and emotions drive behaviours. (Emerging Leaders sessions are prominent throughout AGN as we strive to help members become future forward and embrace new services and technologies.)
Also new this year were three "streams", concurrent sessions covering a variety of topics in the tax, business development, and practice management areas. Presentations included BEPS, Effective Networking, and Digitization.
Our key note speaker, Dr. James Bellini
, futurologist gave provocative and encouraging insights into possible futures and the impact of emerging trends like 3D printing, local sourcing and the sharing economy.
During the meeting Richard Hempe
of Germany took over as chair from Martin Felenda
of Czech Republic, who stepped down after serving a 2 year term. Everyone expressed their sincere thanks to Martin Felenda for his extensive contribution and commitment to the development of AGN International in Europe, and wished Richard every success for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Equally important to the technical sessions are the social events, and this year was no different! Always lots of fun, members enjoyed each other's company during a walking tour to Matyas Pince restaurant. The Matyas Pince featured authentic Hungarian cuisine, gypsy band, and Hungarian folk dancing. The spectacular gala dinner was held at the award-winning Gundel restaurant with delicious food and drink. The next afternoon a city tour included stops at various highlights of the city.
The new AGN International - Europe Chair, Richard Hempe commented, “This was a valuable and enjoyable event. Members benefited from an excellent technical and social agenda, as well as some great networking and relationship building opportunities in beautiful Budapest.”
The 2018 European Regional Meeting will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland. Dates are still to be determined and will be announced to the membership at the appropriate time.
